I would always go to Hamburger Henry´s almost every day after I attended Cal State Long Beach in the 70´s. I would eat hamburgers all the time and to be honest I still do . I loved the hamburgers because of the thousand island dressing . Mr. Meyer would always be there. Anytime I´m in Belmont Shore, it brings back fond memories . Bob´s Big Boy was my 2nd choice but Hamburger Henry´s was the best!!! I really miss that time. May he continue to rest in peace

I personally met and worked for Henry as a cook at his famous Hamburger Henry's on 2nd street Belmont Shore in 1969 while I was 15 years old. Mary Ellen, the Day sister's, Sonny McDonald and Bonnie were all my favorites. We used to freshly grind the hamburger and Henry who did run a tight ship would quickly walk by and stop to grab a bite of raw hamburger, yuk I would say and he would usually have s smart quick comment back but eventually got me to try it , tar tar?
He left me with some life long memories as now I'm 65 back then I was on my own and 15 years old, he gave me a break as I was a hard worker, knew how to cook and he was a great man. I deeply Wish I had some memorabilia from there

RIP Henry<3 <3 <3 My sister and I loved that place, we used to go every weekend back in the 80s. It was our symbol of having lived in California for many years. The best hamburger I have ever eaten in my entire life...and I don't think I will ever be lucky enough to find a place like Henry's... I'm very sorry you're gone my friend...you were the best..I'm very sorry my son couldn't get to taste one of your awesome burgers :'( :'(

We have had the priveledge of living next door to Henry and Jane for the last 10 years. Unfortunately we were out of the state when he passed. We will remember Henry as one who was always generous with his time and knowledge. We found him to be one of the most interesting conversationalist we have ever met in our lifetime and we will miss him very much. Henry had a positive influence on his community and his friends and was extremely proud of being a citizen of this country. Our heartfelt condolences to Jane and his entire family

Some of my favorite memories are of "Hamburger Henry's" in Belmont Shore and what a nice man he was, never too busy to stop and chat. So sad to hear of his passing. God bless!

What a remarkable person. What a challenging life and yet such a strong sense of generosity and "giving back" that resonates through his life story. It must be quite painful to lose such a man, but very inspiring to remember him. Thank you for sharing with us.

I remember talking to Henry at the JCC and hearing about his tough experiences in Shanghai under the Japanese occupation during WWII. He also expressed how sad he was not only of the loss of his family but being denied an education in Germany as a Jew. But l look at what Henry had accomplished in his life through perseverance and what he has contributed to his society. What a wonderful example to live up to. He loved America. May G-d bless Henry Meyer.

As part of Henry's extended family, I feel privileged to have been exposed to his thoughtfulness, generosity and grand sense of humor.
His unique style, imagination and enjoyment of margaritas has prompted me to name one I make, now called the "Henrita."

Henry introduced me to Rotary. I learned so much from him, he was open minded and a very wise business man. My prayers to the family. There is a new angel in heaven.

I worked as a fry cook for Henry in 1974 and remember how innovative, demanding, and forgiving he was as an employer. I was told, and it may be apocryphal, that Dwight Yoakum worked there as a fry cook too, the year before I was hired. His place was THE 2nd Street go-to restaurant for big portions, variety, and bustle. I always respected the way he wore his suffering with stoicism and a zest for life. May he RIP.

Henry was such a special person and it was my pleasure to have known him for well over forty years. His son David brings to mind the countless anecdotes we would share about his dad Henry. There was just nobody like him. Please convey to the family my sadness over his passing. I had met his wife as well, such a nice lady. I can see Henry now so plainly, with a twinkle in his eye, reading all of this from his Long Beach family. I hope David sees this, so maybe him and I could talk someday.

My deepest sympathies to the family. I had the privilege of hearing Henry speak about his time during the war. It was part of the Long Beach reads One Book activities. He was an amazing man who lived an amazing life. I am glad I was able to meet him that night.

Henry mentored me in both business and public service. He was a Long Beach giant--with an accent. There will never be another Henry Meyer.

Henry was truly one of a kind. Yvonne and I have many, many found memories. Building Henry's Naples home and writing his life's story in "The Last Train Out of Berlin", are precious memories we will keep forever.

Loved Hamburger Henry's...spent many a Sunday morning there. Then I got to know Henry very well when I worked for the Long Beach grand Prix. He was a fixture there. A wonderfu, kind man. Sad that he is gone.

I grew up in LB and loved this hamburger place! A great memory of the good old days. So very sorry for your loss. My own father just passed away in February and had a similar story of losing his parents during the war in Paris, to concentration camp. He was a retired Sargeant of the LB Police Dept and loved Hamburger Henry's also! Prayers to the family during this difficult time.
