Martin Sterk Obituary

Martin James Sterk was born in Bellflower to Dr. Martin Henry and Anna Sterk. He attended the Bellflower Christian Schools, and graduating in 1969 from Valley Christian High School in Cerritos. He then attended Calvin College in Michigan and returned to the area to work in the travel industry. He owned Expert Travel Agency in Huntington Beach for many years. In 2009 he moved to Vietnam to work with Pastor Bao Nguyen in serving local Christian ministries. He spent 10 years in Vietnam and greatly loved the people he was privileged to work with.Martin never married, but family meant a great deal to him. He had a fantastic memory for people and could always be relied upon to provide the details of family connections and lore. He is survived by: sisters Lois (Gene) Miller; Jeannie (Vern) Snoeyink, and Frances (Alvern) Miersma; brother Don (Valerie); and 10 beloved nieces and nephews.Services will be held at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 17054 Bixby Ave., Bellflower. Visitation will be at the church at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 7. The service will begin at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saigon Presbyterian Church, saigonchurch.com are suggested.
