Jack Sherwood Obituary

Jack Sherwood 1931 - 2006 A longtime resident of Long Beach, Jack Sherwood, passed away on November 5, 2006 from prostate cancer. Jack grew up in North Long Beach, attended Jordan High School and Long Beach City College where he was active in football and baseball. Jack loved sports cars and attended sport car races all over California in the 1950's and 60's. He even became a "crew chief" for a local sports car driver. When his sports car driver friends became interested in sailboat racing, he actively participated in sailboat racing out of Long Beach Yacht Club and Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. For many years Jack was a very popular bartender at Long Beach Yacht Club. He always had a smile on his face, and had a pretty good joke to pass on to the 'regulars'. He moved from the yacht club to a head bartending position at the La Brique Restaurant (now called the Spring dale Bar & Grill) in Huntington Beach. While at the restaurant, he entered a national bartenders contestant for the best newest drink and placed second nationally-from hundreds of entries all over the United States! Upon retiring, Jack moved to the Palm Springs area, where he resided until his passing. Jack will be remembered as a truly thoughtful, gentle person and a real gentleman. He will be missed by his family and his many long time friends. A CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE WILL BE HELD AT THE SPRING DALE BAR & GRILL LOCATED AT 14892 SPRINGDALE ST., HUNTINGTON BEACH, ON FEBRUARY 10, 2007 FROM 12 NOON TO 2PM. PLEASE RSVP BARBRA WHITE (951) 672-6218! Memorials may be sent to The American Cancer Society, 936 Pine Ave., Long Beach, CA 90813.
