Janet McKenzie Obituary

Janet Davies Mason McKenzie

Janet Davies Mason McKenzie age 93, died peacefully at home in Long Beach, California on October 1, 2017.

Janet was the loving wife of Edward McKenzie, who preceded her in death, and the cherished mother of Douglas and Scott, who also preceded her in death.

Janet was born at Seaside Hospital on June 25, 1924 in Long Beach, California, to parents Bruce and Kathleen Mason. She happily lived in Long Beach all of her life. After graduating from Wilson High School, she attended UC Berkeley. Janet took advantage of all that college life had to offer, and was an active member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Her biggest delight was to return to Long Beach to marry her high school sweetheart before he was "shipped off" for Naval duty during WWll. Upon Eddie's return, they moved to Westwood with their new addition to the family (Doug) while Eddie completed his degree at UCLA. After graduation, they moved back to Long Beach, where they raised their family and resided for the remainder of their lives.

Janet had a wide range of interests, and led a busy life! Janet was a pillar of the community, and was extremely involved in the Junior Leage and PEO. She loved spending time outdoors, and was an enthusiastic tennis player and had camping down to a science! She and Eddie were active Alamitos Bay Yacht Club members, where they enjoyed competing in the Lido sailboat races. One of her greatest pleasures was hosting gatherings in her home and cooking for guests.

Janet will be remembered as a devoted friend to many, a reliabl eand dependable ally, and an invaluable source of advice and wisdom. Her optimistic view on life was an inspiration to everyone!

A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 in the afternoon on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 525 E. 7th Street in Long Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Wilson High School's McKenzie Scholarship Fund. Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits

Janet and Eddie were not only neighbors, but extra grandparents for my three children. The many memories they gave Long Beach families and friends with their Christmas Day and 4th of July celebrations were an integral part of growing up. Our entire family will dearly miss Janet's enormous laugh and beautiful smile. May she rest in peace!

Saddened to hear the passing of Ms. McKenzie. Her beloved husband helped me through Wilson. Loved Mr. Ed. Her Son Doug, who I was very close to for many years and lost contact in the late 1970's and have been searching for still today, now I find out he passed. I thought that. Will someone be so kind as to let me know when Doug passed away please? Rest in Peace Ms. McKenzie, you raised a wonderful family and your Beloved Husband was just awesome. All of you now can Dance.............Dance in Heaven.

Janet was such a wise and caring friend! We enjoyed spending time together discussing local as well as world events. She possessed a pleasant disposition and a genuine love for Long Beach. She shared fond memories of her involvement in Junior League, PEO, the Tuna Club and gatherings she hosted at her home.
I feel blessed to have shared special moments with her. She will remain in my heart forever!
