Kevin Strong Obituary

Kevin Strong

Kevin Strong was born in Long Beach, on April 23, 1956. Kevin lived in Long Beach and graduated from Millikan in 1974. Kevin attended UC Santa Barbara and then received his Masters Degree in Speech Communication from Cal State Long Beach in 1982. Kevin met his wife Lisa in Santa Barbara and they married and settled in Long Beach in 1982. Kevin was hired as a Speech Communications Instructor at Santa Ana College in 1984. Kevin always loved sports and enjoyed surfing and playing basketball. He also coached his kids in soccer and basketball for many years. He was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor in 1994 and underwent many surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy and was eventually paralyzed from the waist-down. Kevin was involved at Calvary Chapel Westgrove and led a Cancer Support Group there. Later, Kevin was diagnosed with ALS, (Lou Gehrig's disease). Even through his long battle with Cancer and ALS, he never lost faith in his Lord Jesus Christ and was an example to all those around him. Kevin never gave up his desire to live and be involved in his children's lives as they grew up. He considered himself lucky to have so much support and love from his family, friends, co-workers, and church. Kevin will be remembered for his warmth, friendliness, and care for those around him. Even toward the end of his life, while he was completely paralyzed, his eyes still shined with love and joy. Kevin Strong passed away on October 29, 2011 at his home in Long Beach. He left behind his wife, Lisa Strong, and their four children, Caley (Kelley), Ethan, Graham, and Lenise as well as his sister, Maureen (Kevin), and many other dear family members and friends. Lisa and family - my heart goes out to all of you!! Kevin was always so great to be around and I remember last seeing you at Mike's wedding in Texas a few years back. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing and know it leaves such a void on earth for you all. He fought a courageous battle and is now free from all the pain and suffering. You will all be together one day and I hope that you find comfort with the many friends and family surrounding you during this difficult time.

Kevin and I went to Millikan together and lost contact over the years but I never forgot him. He was one of the coolist guys I ever knew. My heart sank when I learned of his passing but was consoled after knowing of his Love and friendship with OUR Lord. May your family be at peace knowing this and that God give you the strength to get through this time. In the name of OUR savior Jesus Christ. Love be with the Strong family and all who knew Kevin. It was over a dozen years ago that Kevin and I made a connection through NJB Basketball. NJB was so much fun for me and my son Kevin because of Kevin Strong. Lisa I want you to know how much I thought of Kevin and how we looked forward to running into you both from time to time. My prayers and love for you both go out to you now. He was a true man of God to the very end and he will be missed by all of the King family. Guy King

Dear Strongs,
It is with heavy heart that I learned tonight of Kevin's passing. We both grew up and went to school in Long Beach majoring in the same field, and didn't find out that fact until we worked together at Santa Ana college in the 1980's. Kevin ended up with the full time position he so richly deserved. He was a terrific professor! Kind and sweet Kevin always kept his faith. He serves as a role model to us all of what a husband and father should be- under all circumstances. I have always stood in awe of him, and I'm glad we had the chance to work together-albeit too briefly. I will continue prayers for the family. We are lucky to have lived in his time.
