Mariann Mills Obituary

Mariann Grace Mills Mariann, 88, died peacefully at home on November 23, 2010. She was born to Ralph and Eunice Crook in Nebraska in 1922, and moved with her family to San Pedro, California in 1930. She played violin for the Long Beach Philharmonic Orchestra while in college. She had a life-long pride in having enlisted in the W.A.V.E.S. in her early 20s, later buying a house under the G.I. Plan in Lakewood, where she lived for 53 years. Mariann was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd H. Mills; her brother, Jack Crook of San Pedro; and her sister, Marjii Dunivan of Meadow Grove, Nebraska. She is survived by her two loving daughters, DiAnn Herst and Vikki Brooks; by her beloved sister-in-law, Mary Crook; and by special daughters, Leslie Hamilton and Betty Hart. Mariann was loved and cherished by seven grandchildren, Michael, Allison, Sandra, Daniel, Eric, Lisa, Cindy; eight great grandchildren, Katie, Jessica, Christopher, Heather, Tyler, Steven, Savannah, Carter; one great great grandchild, Avalon; five nieces and nephews, Doug, Richard, Carolee, Chuck, Cyndee; ten great nieces and great nephews, Nicole, Darren, Mara, Gina, Andrew, Roseanne, Chelsey, Michael, Steven, Kim. She had long been an active participant and supporter of Eastern Star, Job's Daughters, Assistance League of Garden Grove, and WAVES National. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Meridian Chapter Heart Fund, % Darlene Sluder, 1341 Weeburn Road - #75K, Seal Beach, CA 90740 or Children's Hospital, % El Bekel Shrine, 1320 S. Sanderson Ave., Anaheim, CA 92806. Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, December 11, at Rose Window Chapel, Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana. She will be greatly missed by her family and many close friends.
