Polly Kathryn Johnson

1949 - 2022

Polly Kathryn Johnson, 73 of Carlsbad, CA passed away peacefully in her home under Hospice care on June 7, 2022 after an extended illness due to Alzheimer's. Polly was born in Long Beach, CA on January 31, 1949 to parents Dr. Theodore & Iola Dunkle. Polly lived in Long Beach, graduating from Wilson High School in 1967 and Long Beach City College in 1970. Kim Loren Johnson and Polly Kathryn Dunkle were married in Long Beach on August 27, 1970 and were life pardners for nearly 52 years. Then after living a few years in San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Rosa, they settled in Carlsbad for the last 37 years. Polly was a graduate of UCSD, an avid boater, a long time runner, and an exceptional violin player. Many weeks were enjoyed at anchor or moorings at Catalina and the channel islands off the California coast. Polly was a music teacher and taught violin and piano. She was in several orchestras and would practice at night out on the family boat at the islands. From 1986 to 2021, Polly was a violinist and former president of the North Coast Symphony Orchestra. Polly is very much missed mother and wife. She is survived by her children Rob, Tori, and Tom, husband Kim, and grandchildren Stanley, Alice, Jack, and Theodore.
