Robert "Bob" L. Adams, Sr. August 18, 1931 to February 12, 2005 In Loving Memory of Deacon Robert L. "Bob" Adams, Sr. Born August 18, 1931 in Centralia, Illinois. Passed away on February 12, 2005 at Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower, California. After High School, Bob served in the U.S. Air Force. Following his Honorable Discharge, he moved to California and completed schooling to pursue his career goals of Funeral Directing and Embalming. He met and married Dorothy June Darrell, who preceded him in death in 1984. In succession, Cheryl, Robert Jr., Laurence, Donna and Sandra were born to this union. In 1972, Bob achieved his lifelong dream and incorporated the Robert L. Adams Mortuary in Compton, CA. In 1977, Bob was elected as Third District Councilman in Compton where he served three terms. Many of the major commercial and housing developments in the City were built under Bob's leadership. In 1988, God blessed the union of Bob to Peggy L. Scott who for the past 17 years have worked together and ran the mortuary. Bob was an active member of the California State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Guy and Katie Elizabeth; sisters, Katherine Elizabeth, Mary Lacy and Dorothy (John) Jefferson; brothers, Lawrence (Hazel), William and James (Lula); among others. Bob leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Peggy L. Scott-Adams; daughters, Cheryl (Craig) Wady, Donna Whitfi eld, Sandra (Namon) Johnson and Woodrina; sons, Robert Jr., Laurence Sr. (Evelyn), Jimmy and Steven; seven grandchildren, Camille (David) Moet, Corey Wady, Autra Adams, Laurence Adams, Jr., Angelica Adams, Chrisgen Whitfield and Robert Adams III; one brother, Charles Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Double Rock MBC on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 11:00 AM. The Church is located at 1900 W. Alondra Blvd., in Compton. Entombment will immediately follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Services entrusted to Adams Funeral Home, 501 E. Palmer Ave., Compton, CA (323) 636-9864.
