Susan Agee Duphily

1945 - 2022

Susan Agee Duphily passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on April 28, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Susan was born on September 22, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio to parents Dorothy Evelyn (Penfold) (1909-2008) and William "Frank" Agee (1894-1980). She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Roland "Ron" Duphily; daughters, Kate and Laura; son-in-law, Paul West; grandchildren, Ella & Noah; and 3 older brothers, Bill, Robert, and Richard Agee. She was proud of her Cincinnati roots, and her career as a nurse. She attended high school at Oak Grove Boarding School in Maine, and went on to college; first at Ohio State and then Northeastern University. She began her nursing career on the burn unit at Massachusetts General, in Boston. She moved to Corona Del Mar in 1977, and spent many years working in the ICU at Hoag Hospital. She and Ron married on July 19, 1980 and moved to Long Beach in 1983. She took time off to raise her daughters, and went back to work at Long Beach Memorial in the Rehabilitation Unit. Her family took priority, and she was thrilled to become a grandma. She was often surrounded by family and friends (many of whom she had known since childhood), as she was happiest when she was with others. When COVID made that challenging, she switched to FaceTIme! In her free time she enjoyed gardening and reading. Susan is fondly remembered for her playful spirit, the joy and care she brought to her patients, and her gift of gab. She is greatly missed.
