Our sincere condolences to Mr. Reyes's wife and family. We have lost another proud and brave Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Reyes was one of our patients at the LC VA Clinic and I was one of his Nurses. He always had a smile and was courteous with a great and positive attitude. Mr. Reyes brought my husband and I a set of "Field Grade Hats" and my husband still wears his proudly. I believe that he knew my husband previously at NMSU in the 60's.

Words can not express how I feel hearing about the death of such a wondeerful human being. I talked to Blas while I was in Las Cruces just two weeks ago. I was shocked to say the least. With the heaviest of hearts we were deeply sadden to hear about the loss of a very dear and special friend. Many times my family and I would share and remember so many fond memories of Blas. I was involved with him in many Army stories about our experiences in Vietnam and elsewhere. We were a bunch of scared young men not knowing what to expect in our first day of basic training. February 1968 was when I met Blas for the first time. I knew we were in trouble when despite of Blas's impressive size (next to me) he seemed much more scared than what I was. How wrong I was! Blas became our emotional and inspirational leader and because of his leadership selected as the top graduating recruit of our class. In such short period of time he left an impression that lasted me a lifetime.
I often wonder what had become of Blas but as it was his mission we reunited after more than 30 years after our stint in the U.S. Army. What an honor to have met such a great individual. My condolences to the Reyes family and I share your grief at this very sad and difficult time.
