Brian Goodman

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the unexpected passing of Brian Walter Goodman of Las Cruces on Monday, October 7, 2013. Brian was born on August 16, 1970, to William Goodman and Shirley D. Goodman-Pickering in Durango, Colo. His favorite past times were fishing and being outdoors and he took pride in working in his yard and garden. Brian was a kind, caring, compassionate son, husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin to every person in his entire family. Brian filled our lives with laughter and will be greatly missed. Brian moved to Las Cruces in 1973 and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1988. Brian married Vivian Eckberg on July 14, 2001 in Durango, Colo. After graduating from high school Brian became a volunteer for the Dona Ana Fire Department until he began employment at the Animal Shelter which led him to become an Animal Control Officer (ACO) with the City of Las Cruces in 1991; he continued his service for 23 years to his present position as a Senior Animal Control Officer. Brian loved his job and all that it entailed. His mission in life was aiding and caring for the animals and people in this community. Brian was very proud to be a part of Law Enforcement in the City of Las Cruces and had great respect for all law enforcement. Brian always stopped to aid in all accidents he came across. He volunteered to work all city events to aid in security and anything else that was needed. His father, William Goodman, and his paternal and maternal grandparents of Durango, Colo., preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Goodman; his mother, Shirley Goodman-Pickering; step-daughter, Laura Bosserman, of Las Cruces; step-mother, Eleanor Goodman, of Durango, Colo.; sisters, Debbie Chavarria and Darla Arenivar, of Las Cruces; nephews, Brenden and Tyler Arenivar, of Anthony, NM; nieces, Alisha Chavarria and Cynthia Chavarria; great-nephew Aidan M. Guerra all of Las Cruces; aunt, Norma Ervin, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and cousins, Bobby Ervin of Windsor, Colo., Gary Ervin, of Greeley, Colo., Ronnie Goodman of Zionsville, Pa.; Larry Hallock, of Denver Colo.; Douglas Cornelius, of Iowa; and his great-aunt, Barbara Cornelius, of Durango, Colo. At Brian's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place at a later time. A Tribute page has been set up on Facebook to share information and memories.
