David Sanchez Obituary

David Lopez Sanchez

Deming, NM - David Lopez Sanchez, 64, of Deming, NM, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 4, 2021, with his family by his side. He was courageous in his battle against colon cancer and will be remembered as a kind and gentle person.

David was born April 6, 1956, in Las Cruces, NM, to Jesus S. Sanchez and Felicitas Lopez. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He graduated from Mayfield High School in 1975. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country honorably for 4 years. During this time he was stationed in Japan for 2 years with his wife Gracie where the two welcomed their first child, Annette. Thereafter, David began his career with Mountain Bell, which evolved to CenturyLink during his tenure. He retired in March 2019. Because David was dedicated to helping others, he served as a City Councilor for the City of Deming, from March 2006 until he passed. He attended St. Ann's Catholic Church.

David enjoyed learning trades and kept busy by always starting a new project. He loved attending flea markets and garage sales where he would find old items he could make new and turn into beautiful works of art or useful household items. He loved collecting old phones, which he had quite a bit of, along with old phone booths. One of his favorite passion projects was restoring old cars, one of which was his father's 1955 Black Chevy that he took to car shows and kept in mint condition. David would tinker with anything he could find and make it work better and found great joy in teaching his son, Christopher, and grandson, Marcuss, these trades. When David wasn't working on projects or serving his community, he was cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. He traveled to Arizona annually to watch the Cubs in Spring Training or visited Wrigley Field.

David is survived by his lovingly wife of 45 years, Gracie O. Sanchez of Deming, NM; two devoted children, Christopher O. Sanchez of Las Cruces, NM and Annette O. Sanchez of Deming, NM; his loving mother Felicitas Sanchez of Las Cruces, NM; one brother, Jesus Sanchez and wife Virginia of Las Cruces, NM; two sisters, Delia Cervantes and husband Jesse of Las Cruces, NM; and Norma Provencio of Las Cruces, NM and two grandchildren, Marcuss J. Flores and Alora Grace Santistevan, who made him sparkle when he saw them. Also left to mourn his passing is his childhood best friend, David Lopez, of Los Lunas NM.

Memorial Services will be held at the Amphitheatre in Deming in October 2021 weather permitting. The Honor Guard will proceed with the presentation of the flag.
