John Kitchens Obituary

John D. Kitchens made his ascension to the heavens on August 16, 2009 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, NM.

John was born in Eastman, Georgia on June 18, 1937 to John and Etta Kitchens. He was named who's who among students in American Junior Colleges as Great Western Regional President San Diego, California. He received the Distinguished Service Award as a legislative assistant from Governor Ronald Reagan. John was a sales manager for Belmont Amusement Park in San Diego, CA. He was also a peace officer for Glynn County Georgia, where he served as President of the Fraternal Order of Police. He retired after 29 years of Federal Civil service with the United States Air Force where he served as a jet re-fueler.

He loved God, family and friends and his dog, a miniature pincher named Boot. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4038 in Las Cruces.

He is survived by daughter Mona Kitchens and her children Brandy, Mindi, Heidi, and son Sean. Son John D. Kitchens Jr., and wife Janice Kitchens and their daughter Kristen. Son Larry G. Kitchens and wife Helena Graham-Kitchens and their Goddaughter Sulie. Brothers Lester V. Kitchens, Clifford Peacock, Hughie Peacock, Sister Docia Peacock, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his brothers James Kitchens, Jack Kitchens, and Ray Kitchens. A memorial service will be held on August 23, 2009 for friends and family at the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Make-A-Wish Foundation. At his requests, his ashes will be spread at sea by his family in his beloved city of San Diego, California at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.
