Julius Mimoso Obituary
Julius Edgar Mimoso, 87, of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away June 2, 2017 in Las Cruces. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 7, 1930, and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota at the age of one, living there until he served his country in the Korean War.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Marie and Bertram Quentin Mimoso, sisters Julie Ann Kassin and Geraldine Larson, son Craig Edgar Mimoso and first wife Donna Jean Mimoso Myers.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Nancy Warren Mimoso. He also is survived by sons Jason Eric (Kathy) Mimoso and Kurt Louis (Nancy) Mimoso, grandchildren Lucie and Jason, nieces Pamela Ann (Gary) Fredrickson and Sandy (Roger) Brass and nephew Mark Quentin Mimoso. Ed also is survived by stepchildren John (Heather) Pence, Daniel (Sandy) Pence, Katie (Dennis) Robbins and Ann (Rick) Woods, as well as step-grandchildren Cameron, Casey, Marilyn, Valerie, Jesse, Chris, Amanda, Tashi, Sadie, Sarah, and Emily, as well as many beloved friends and neighbors.
Ed served as a U.S. Army SSGT in Korea, specializing in mortars. He was such an accurate shot that his squad leader had him demonstrate this ability to visitors. In a private ceremony, he recently was presented with a Quilt of Valor to thank him for his service.
Ed owned several of his own businesses, including La Habra Typewriter & Repair, and Tool and Jig Plating Co. in Whittier, California.
Ed was proud of the time he spent as Worshipful Master of Cornerstone Masonic Lodge 659 of La Habra, California.
Ed and Nancy loved to fly his private airplane, a Cessna named "Big Bird." They made trips cross-country and flew deep into Mexico. They chose to retire in Las Cruces and treasured the friendships made there.
Ed has always had dogs, and was so fond of Suzie and Shadow, both miniature poodles.
Ed has been cremated. A Memorial gathering will be held at the family home Thursday, June 8th at 4:30 for family, friends and neighbors.
