God knew students needed someone kind to lend a helping hand. To be a source of courage helping all to learn & thrive. Someone to gladly take the time to care and understand.
Like a Rose-bud, unfolding its petals in the morning sun,
for such a short time, this lovely Rose kept dazzling all of us.
Suddenly, oh so suddenly, this precious Rose ...
closed before our stunned and teary eyes.
Her wings might have been ready to take flight,
but our hearts and minds were not.
Yet, God knew the plans He had for her.
For now He has her helping Him in paradise.
Her dazzling beauty, her talented and kind heart,
like a treasured memory, is now a blessing in our mind.

We, as the rest of Las Cruces, were shocked when we learned of Karen's tragic accident. We have known Karen and the Apodaca family since our children were at Mayfield HS. We were very pleased when Karen became LCPS Superintendent. She was highly qualified, experienced, and, best of all, from Las Cruces and New Mexico. She was definitely a positive influence for the school district. It is an understatement to say she will be missed! Our sincere condolences to the Apodaca and Trujillo families.

For all of us there was no farewell words spoken and no time to say goodbye. Karen was gone before we knew it. Only God knows why.
In the media, she was a super hero, but to us she was an ordinary hero. Karen was bright, resourceful, ambitious, and determined. She was an inspiring woman who went to work every single day because she loved it and because she wanted to make a difference. Truly knowing Karen, she was never trying to be right, but always trying to help. We will never forget her as she gave us so much to remember. Her best qualities were her sincere loyalty, honesty and selflessness.
Ben, Tara, Tim, and Tavyn, please know Karen will continue to participate in every act, thought, and decision we make. Her friendship leaves an unforgettable imprint in our lives.
A life that touches others, goes on forever.
Rest in Peace our beloved friend.

My sincere condolences to all of Karen’s family. My heart is broken, Karen was a great leader, she treated everyone fair with kindness and that beautiful smile of hers. I’d see Karen at NMSU she was always busy with one thing or another. When I’d run into her at one of the schools she would always ask how things were going. She cared about the staff and students. Heaven has received a beautiful Angel. God bless the Trujillo and Apodaca family.

I never had the privilege to met her but I came by information that our families are related, the Apodaca family. Ben and I went to school together. I did keep up with all her accomplishments. Quite outstanding! I am sending my sincere condolences to Karen’s family, both immediate and extended. May you continue to remember her legacy in all that you do. Sounds like she will live on in all the people’s lives she touched. Fly high and free Dr. Karen Trujillo

Members of the NMSU DanceSport and “Look Who’s Dancing!” programs were saddened to learn that one of their strong and beloved supporters has tragically passed on. Karen bravely stepped up to support the DanceSport students by dancing in the first “Look Who’s Dancing!” event. We cherish our memories of her determination, grace and beauty, humor, and her encouragement of her fellow competitors. Our sympathies are with her family, friends, and all who were privileged to know her.
