Mario Casares

1932 - 2016

Mario Casares was called by the Lord on June 17, 2016. He was born in Silver City, New Mexico, on January 19, 1932, to Enriqueta and Arturo Casares. He served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1954 on the McCoy Reynolds DE-440. When returning to Silver City, he married Beatrice Trujillo in July 28, 1956. He worked various jobs until being hired at Phelps Dodge where he spent most of his time in Tyrone and a few years in Morenci. He retired from Phelps Dodge in 1997. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed working on his yard. Mario was a gentle soul and a man of few words who would do anything for anyone. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Enriqueta Bermudez Casares. He is survived by his loving wife Beatrice of the family home; one daughter, Denise Bartlett and husband Don of Ft. Collins, CO; three grandchildren, Brian Bartlett and wife Beth of Greenlee, CO; Amanda Kaczmarek and husband Nate of Ft. Collins, CO; Andrea Hannah and husband Walter of Raleigh, NC; three great grandchildren, Arianna, Riley and Layla; two brothers, Ruben Casares and wife Janie of Santa Ana, CA; Edmundo Casares and wife Lupe of Silver City; one sister, Gloria Cota and husband Sal of Tucson, AZ and many close family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Amalia Silva and Belia Quintana; four brothers, Paul, Ben and Baldo Casares and Willie Bermudez. The holy rosary will be recited on Friday, June 24 at 9am at St. Francis Newman Center with Deacon Jerry Miller. The funeral mass will follow at 9:30am at St. Francis Newman with Father Jarek Nowacki officiating. Concluding services inurnment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.
