Norman E. Derk
Las Cruces - Norman E. Derk, age 78, passed away on April 25, 2021 in the Bay Area, California. He was born March 1, 1943 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Irma and Norman Derk Sr.
Norman moved to the United States with his family when he was 1 years old, he grew up in New York. When he turned 18 he joined the Unites States Air Force for four years. He moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1966, he went to Fire Fighter school and joined the Las Cruces Fire Department, as if being a Fireman wasn't enough, he also worked for Memorial Hospital in the Maintenance Department. Norman retired from the Las Cruces Fire Department as Lieutenant after 20+ years and retired from the hospital in 1998. Norman spent the past few years with his oldest Granddaughter and her family in California, they are so grateful for the time God allowed them to have together, Norman was the best Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, full of love, laughter, and precious moments. Norman was a faithful Christian devoted to God, his wife, his family, church and the community. He was married to his wife Julia Luna Derk for over 45 years before her passing in 2016, they spent all their time together, shopping, family trips, they were inseparable. Norman really missed his wife and the family takes comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with his wife however he will be tremendously missed.
Those left to mourn his passing are one son, Ronnie Derk, two daughters Sandra Pimentel and Sylvia Curtis, 8 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Norman was preceded in death by his loving wife Julia Luna Derk, son Ramon Parra and his parents.
Pallbearers: Amanda Pimentel, JJ Ramos, Javier Ramos, Kenny Luna, Michael Mancha, Danny Mancha and Kevin Oliver.
Visitations will be held on Friday May 7, 2021 at Community Life Church, 1980 Spruce Ave, at 09:00 A.M. The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 Picacho Ave, with full military honors.
