Raul Pena Obituary
Survivors include his loving wife, Beatrice L. Peña of the family home; son, Steve L. Peña; grandchildren, Lisa Peña Curry and husband Brian, all of Mesilla, and David Peña of Las Cruces. Great-grandchildren, Kaya Bleu and Jack "Melo" Curry also of Mesilla; his sister, Elisa Peña Nieto and husband, Filemon of Las Cruces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Jo Ann Peña Minor in December of 1988, his sister, Lencha Trujillo, and an adopted son, Joe "Barney" Villa in 1999.
The Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:30 PM Thursday, November 15, 2007 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina, at which time a chalice will be presented to the family in his memory by the Knights of Columbus. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, November 16 at San Albino Catholic Church, 2070 Calle de Santiago in Mesilla, concelebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop Ricardo Ramirez and Monsignor Robert Getz. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in San Albino Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Military Honors will be accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard, and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment.
Serving as casket bearers will be David Peña, Ray Nieto, "Baby Joe" Garcia, Steve "Kid" Madrid, Ernie Rel, Pete Jurado and Roberto Estrada. Honorary casket bearers will be Arturo Jurado, Leo Romero, Andrew Garcia, Tito Hinojosa, Veronica Garcia, Mariana Gallegos, Brian Curry, Jake Johnson, Wit Harvey, Sonny Klein, Richard Bullard, Ed Denzler, Arnold Aguirre, Steve Aguirre, Lonnie Mahres, Bobby Limon, Dave Reynolds, Eloy Vigil, Tommy Montoya, Marcel Nicolitz, Bill Mattiace, Jaime Trujillo, Bobby Alvarez, Tom Vincent and Edward Lopez. Special honorary casket bearers will be all the "Mesilleros".
The family business will be closed on Friday, November 16, 2007 and will re-open for regular business on Monday, November 19, 2007.

Dear Beatrice and Stevie,
Your husband and father's ready smile and good humor will be missed by all of us. It was wonderful to have your family as neighbors when I was growing up. Mr. Pena was a model father in our community, contributing generously his time and resources to his church with great faithfulness, which the Lord delighted in. Those he leaves behind are saddened, but I know without a doubt Bulie is joyfully united with all those he loved in this world who preceeded him in passing.

His compassion for others was what made "El Gorgonio" the man that he was...a true leader in the community.
