Ronnie Russell Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Ronnie D. Russell, 72, on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 30, 1936, in La Junta, Colo. to Alfred V. and Geneva Cannon Russell. Mr. Russell served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War and retired from Santa Fe Railroad as a freight conductor. He was member of the prison ministries and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Lou Russell, of the family home; two sons, Robert Peru and wife, Rosemary of Silver City, David Russell, of Las Cruces; a brother, Dr. James Russell and wife, Judy, of Denver, Colo. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Amanda Carreon and husband, Manuel, Javier Peru, Christina, Brandon and Gabriel Russell; four great-grandchildren, Adrian, Jacob and Isaiah Carreon, Robert Peru; two nephews, Chris Russell and wife, Katherine, Paul Russell and wife, Shelly all of Denver, Colo. as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Ave., with Rev. James Russell officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by a Naval Honor Guard.
Honorary bearers will be Richard Madrid, George Chip, Javier Peru, Manny Carreon, Joseph Gonzales, Chris Russell and Paul Russell.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Lung Association, 7001 Menaul Boulevard NE, Suite 1A, Albuquerque, N.M., 87110.
The Russell Family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road, Las Cruces. (575) 527-2222
