Virgil Boothe Obituary

Virgil Leroy Boothe, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, November 08, 2009 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by daughters and friends. He was the firstborn child to Alpha and Florence Boothe born on October 10, 1935 in Floydada, Texas. As he grew up he worked hard to help tend to his family while his own father was sent off to serve in WWII. Virgil attended Texas Technological College (now known as Texas Tech University) studying Geology. He later married and had five daughters. Virgil moved his family to Las Cruces in 1967 and worked as a glazier most of his life. He owned Mesilla Valley Glass and for the last thirty years he was the owner of Add-A-Sash. Being a pilot was one of his most enjoyable experiences. Virgil loved to spend time in the mountains and on the beaches in Mexico.

Virgil is preceded in death by his father, a sister, Sandra Gayle, a daughter, Darryn Kay, and a granddaughter, Tiffany Savage. He is survived by his mother, four daughters, Dorma Kohler and husband John Bobo of San Antonio, Texas, Trina Chilton and husband Jerry of Hamilton, Texas, Kim Bold and husband Jim of Carrollton, Texas, Tammy Vickers and husband Todd of Lubbock, Texas, and two sisters, Gay Cline and Theresa Bartz of Lubbock, Texas. He had eight grandsons, Adam Kohler and wife Jen, Patrick Kohler, Derek Savage and wife Nicole, Sean Bold, Michael Garcia and wife Jackie, Arnold Paul Garcia, Tanner and Taylor Vickers. He had two nephews, three nieces and one great-grand child.

All who knew Virgil knew his enjoyment of life, his love of adventure, his sense of humor and perhaps best of all, his laughter. He taught his daughters the life lessons of the value of hard work, the value of honesty and the value of keeping your word. He shared his generosity and friendship with so many and one of his greatest joys was quietly encouraging others. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service is planned in his honor for 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home Chapel 555 W. Amador Avenue. A celebration of Virgil's life and Remembrance will follow at Dickerson's Barn at 2 p.m. All friends who knew him are invited to share with the family in this celebration.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice or Habitat for Humanity. Arrangements are with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home. To send condolences go to www.lapaz-grahams.com

My deepest regards to Virgil and the Boothe family. Virgil was a good friend of my father.
I always reminded Virgil and thanked him for fixing a window that was broken while my parents were out of town. He also never mentioned it to my Dad.

My deepest regards to Virgi and the Booth family. Virgil was a friend of our family and a good friend of my father.
I always reminded him and thanked him for not telling my Dad about a broken window during a party while my parents were away.
Thank you and god bless.

I meet Virgil after we purachased the land adjacent to him (from him)and as I mentioned at his memorial service it was on under very funny circumstance. That purchase brought us (my family), the frendship of so many wonderful people, Virgil being one of them and one I will always remember. His laugh, his love for his family whom we heard him talk about so many times, and watching him take Olie for walks to the mail-box are things I will never forget. I know he and Fred (my husband) are up there having coffee now, telling tales and watching over all of us. I am so sorry for your loss but it is heavens gain. God bless.
