Ruth Marsh Obituary

Ruth B. Marsh LANCASTER Home Economist Ruth B. Marsh, 91, of Lancaster, died Saturday at Landis Homes Retirement Village. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin in 1996, her brother Norman Brubaker, her sister Kathryn Kurtz, and nephew Robert Weil. Born August 4, 1914, in Schaefferstown, Pa., Ruth was a long time resident of Lancaster. Although raised in The Church of the Brethren, Mrs. Marsh was a 50-year loyal member of The First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Juniata College in 1936, and did graduate work at Ohio State University. She was the director of the department of home economics at Penn Manor High School for 20 years, after faculty positions at Cornwall High School, and Hempfield High School, in addition to directing home economic programs throughout York County. Her talents were many. Mrs. Marsh was renowned as an excellent seamstress, a fine cook, and an unparalleled hostess. A former president of The Women's Republican Club of Lancaster. Mrs. Marsh loved her friends, and she loved to laugh, but most of all, she loved to love. Surviving are her sons, Eric Marsh of Lancaster, Jo Marsh of Knoxville, Tenn.; her sister, Martha B. Weil of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter-in law, Jennifer Marsh of Knoxville; special granddaughter, Catherine Marsh of Baltimore, Md.; and many nephews and a niece. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Brereton Manor Guest Home, and Landis Homes Retirement Village, for their professional, loving, care and attention. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, at First United Methodist Church, Duke and Walnut streets, Lancaster, with the Rev. Dr. Kent E. Kroehler officiating, with graveside services following. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
