Brenda Atzeni

1941 - 2025

Brenda Atzeni, 84, of Sligo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born August 16, 1941 in Sligo, she was the daughter of Walter and Dorothea (Morris) Slagle.

Brenda married Richard "Dick" Atzeni on May 9, 1969. He survives.

She was a legal secretary for the former Pope, Pope and Drayer Attorneys at Law, and several other attorneys in the Clarion area.

She was a member of the Pennsylvania Women's Bowling Team, the Ladies Auxiliary (Sligo Volunteer Fire Company) and was also a Clarion County Mental Health Delegate.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo, scratching lottery tickets, playing slot machines, reading, golfing in her younger years, vacationing in Myrtle Beach and spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her dog, Scooter.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Dick Atzeni of Sligo; two daughters, Lori Smith and her husband, Larry, of Oak Ridge, Cindy Jordan and her husband, Curtis, of Sligo; two sons, Jeff Elder and his wife, Michele, of Sligo, Rick Atzeni and his wife, Shelly, of Sligo; seven grandchildren, Meagan Hammond, Amanda (Ben) Cobler, Taylor and Roman Jordan, Justin Elder, Maddie (Josh) Coy, Hannah Atzeni (Zak Leighty); six great-grandchildren, Halle, Tucker, Brenlee, Abby, Grayson and Hudson; a brother-in-law, Jack Salizzoni; two nieces, Shawna Corle and Patti Salizzoni; one nephew, Brad Salizzoni; and special friends, Dustin and Jessica Shrum and their daughters.

A special heartfelt thank you to Shelby Wolfe for her kind and compassionate care.

We would also like to extend our thank you to the AseraCare Hospice nurses, Brittany, Bethany, Kelly and Catelynn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Salizzoni; and a brother, Walter Slagle Jr.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo.

Additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., with the Pastor Tom Switzer of Grace Community Church in Curllsville officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery.
