James Algoe Obituary
James H. Algoe, 76, of Apple Valley, Calif., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the home of his sister, Alice, in Newmanstown, where he lived for the past two months.
James was born at home in Redbank Township, Clarion County, on August 29, 1948. He was the son of the late Warren H. Algoe and Mollie Jane (Miller) Algoe.
James graduated from Redbank Valley High School in 1967. After graduation he earned a four-year degree in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. From there he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. After serving two years in the Air Force, he accepted a position as a probationary officer in the County of San Bernardino, Calif. Jim was one of the pillars of the office who trained many young probation officers and helped them adapt to the regards of working with people who were struggling in life. He was extremely professional, and had the same moral compass in his work and private life. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Dianne (Akers) Algoe. They celebrated 49 years together before her passing in 2024.
He enjoyed gardening at his home in Apple Valley. Jim enjoyed showing rabbits and was a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association and the Californian Rabbit Breeders Association and won many awards. James also raised chickens and donated the eggs to the local food bank. He grew many fruit trees and flowers. Both he and Dianne had a love for dogs and had many throughout the years.
After retirement, James and Dianne enjoyed traveling to many sites in the United States and Europe.
James was active in his church and enjoyed giving to others, which was something that he cherished.
He is survived by three siblings, Dwight (Sarah Barrett) of Mount Joy, Alice Roush of Newmanstown and Bobby of Newmanstown; two nieces, Erin (Chip) Geib and Emily (Jeff) Harry; four great-nephews, Benny, Colin, Jeremy and Noah; a great-niece, Ava; and a great-great-niece, Caroline.
James also had a close relationship with a neighbor boy, Steven, while living in California. He was also very close to his wife's nephew, Danny of Michigan, with whom he and Dianne enjoyed spending time together.
After his wife's passing, James became a regular Starbucks customer. There he met and became close friends with many of the employees. His close friends Etta and Tony, Mike and Linda and many church members had a special place in his heart.
A private celebration of life was held on August 30, 2025 in Newmanstown.
