Kenneth D. Boddorf, 96, of New Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025 at Clarion Hospital.
Born in Brookville on June 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Irvin and Hazel McDevitt Boddorf.
Ken quit school at the age of 15 and at 19 he enlisted. He proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
He served in the Korean Conflict and was wounded in combat. He received a Purple Heart for his injuries.
A skilled marksman, he was a member of the U.S. Shooting Team.
He could never talk about his time in Korea without breaking down and remembering those left behind. War left wounds that you could not see.
Upon his discharge on March 31, 1952, he had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On March 30, 1956, he married the love of his life, the former Winifred "Winnie" Truitt in Deanville. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage prior to her death just six short weeks ago on October 14, 2025.
Ken was always a hard worker and worked different jobs throughout his career. He worked at Crawford Furniture and Bracken Construction before retiring in July 1989 from PennDOT.
He became a born-again Christian at the age of 90. Must have been the Boddorf stubbornness that made him wait so long.
He loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his family enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips, passing his hobbies off to his children. Ken and Winnie spent many winters in Lake Okeechobee, Fla. They spent much of their time there fishing, bringing the Specks they caught back home to share with friends and family. Ken shot his last two deer at the age of 83. He loved to hunt.
He and Winnie had two children, a son, Kevin (Tracy Neese) Boddorf, and a daughter, Kimberly (Kevin) Ruby.
Other survivors include his grandson, Frank (Emily) Walls; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Boddorf; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The pride and joy of his life was his grandson. He loved being Frank's grandpa. He and Frank were always busy with something. Building, gardening or just playing, they loved being together. Frank viewed his grandpa "As the Best of Us."
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Boddorf and Richard Boddorf; his sisters-in-law, Gloria Smith, Deloris Stewart and Barbara Boddorf; and his bothers-in-law, Hudson Smith and Kenneth Stewart.
As was his request, there will be no services held.
Interment will be in Squirrel Hill Cemetery, Porter Township, Clarion County.
Arrangements are at the direction of the Furlong Funeral Home, located at 50 Broad Street in Summerville.
