Nelda V. Wadding

1932 - 2024

Nelda V. Wadding, 92, of New Bethlehem, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday afternoon, March 16, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 19, 1932, in Flemington, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Fray C. and Avice (Costello) McCray.

She married Richard V. Wadding on June 30, 1952. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1988.

Nelda was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple in Ohio until they moved to Pennsylvania, where she became a member of the Springside Baptist Church in New Bethlehem.

She helped her husband on the farm, enjoyed canning, churning butter, making maple syrup and raising five children. She also raised Boston Terriers and Bulldogs.

She was a self-taught quilter and won several blue ribbons at the county fair.

Survivors include her five children, Timothy Wadding and his wife, Kelly, and Mark Wadding and his wife, Jyl, both of East Canton, Ohio, Darlene Baker and her husband, Robert Jr., of New Bethlehem, Arlene Switzer and her husband, Ken, of Fairmount City and Mervin Wadding and his wife, Cindy, of New Bethlehem; nine grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Norris and Hildred "Tiny" McCray, both of Canton, Ohio; and a brother, Thomas McCray of West Virginia.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorraine Martin and Doris Ocheltree; and four brothers, Morris McCray, Bill Costello, Blair McCray and Dana McCray.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the funeral home, with Pastor Robert Cummins Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.
