Vera Allen Obituary

Vera May Allen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, was called to her eternal home on Monday, October 20, 2025 with loved ones by her side.

She was born on January 14, 1939 in Parkersburg, W. Va., to Lysle and Hallie Cameron.

Vera graduated from Parkersburg High School and attended Anderson University in Anderson, Ind., where she met her forever love, Roger Wade Allen. Vera and Roger were married in 1960 and lived in Indianapolis, Ind. for a time before moving to Clarion, where all three of their children were born. The family later moved to Belpre, Ohio, for Roger to continue doctoral studies at Ohio University. Together, Vera and Roger built a beautiful life filled with faith, music, laughter and family.

Vera spent her life as a loving and kind role model to her children and grandchildren and a faithful friend to many. She was beautiful, warm and nurturing and she led with love in all that she did.

She was a woman of many talents - an organist, pianist and teacher. She also worked in the legal profession.

Alongside her husband and daughter, she shared her musical talents as a pianist and singer in church concerts across many states.

Vera and Roger loved to travel and experience adventures together, visiting Germany, France, England, Scotland, the Netherlands and Japan. They especially enjoyed their trips to California to visit their son, and favorite spots like Napa, Carmel and Yosemite. When traveling with friends, Vera and Roger rode horseback down the Grand Canyon and in the mountains of Colorado.

Her greatest joy, however, was always her family. She was devoted to those she loved and attended many concerts, productions and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of vacationing, camping, playing board games and sleeping over with their grandma and grandpa.

Vera also deeply valued her longtime group of friends in a women's book study whose camaraderie, shared love of reading and mutual support she treasured for many years in Parkersburg.

Roger passed away in 2018, and in 2023, Vera sold the family home and moved back to Clarion, where she was able to be close to family and feel nearer to the love of her life.

In the final weeks of her life, Scott and Shelley cared for her with love and devotion in their home, surrounding her with comfort and the support of family.

Vera is survived by her children and their spouses, Laura Thrash and husband, Steve, Johnny Allen and wife, Mariko, and Scott Allen and wife, Shelley; five grandchildren; four grandchildren-in-law; and four great-grandchildren, Wade Thrash and wife, Lindsey and their children Mia, Max and Miles; Caleb Thrash and wife, Haley and their daughter Saylor; Rhone Thrash and wife, Abby; Hannah Beers and husband, Tyler; and John Samuel Allen.

Vera is also survived by her beloved sister, Betty Peck, along with many dear nieces, nephews and friends.

One of her last heartfelt reflections captured her spirit perfectly: "I love the life we've had."

Her loving spirit and devotion to family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and countless beautiful memories. While her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of those who loved her, we take solace in knowing that she is at peace, reunited with her husband and loved ones and will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the First United Methodist Church of Clarion, with the Rev. Jodie Smith and Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.

Arrangements are at the direction of the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 330 Wood Street in Clarion.

Cards or notes for the family may be sent to: The Allen Family, 1540 McGill Rd., Corsica, PA 15829.
