Leon Anderson Obituary

Leon (Andy) Compton Anderson, Jr. died November 30, 2025, at Harbor Hospice in Portland, TX at the age of 81.

He was born on August 31, 1944, in Dowagiac, Michigan to LeonCompton, Sr. and Doris (Frantz) Anderson. Andy is a 1969 graduate of the College of the Ozarks with a bachelor's degree in history.

On April 11, 1970, he married his beloved wife Jane Ann Telaar (1948-2018). Together, they moved back to Dowagiac, Michigan, where they raised their 3 sons and both became important members of their community. Along with his wife Jane, they enjoyed learning and preserving the history of their town and historic home. In 2019, Andy officially got his wife's house, the Criffield Whiteley house in Dowagiac, recognized as a Michigan Historic Site and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

He was cared for and deeply loved by his family and friends. Surviving are his three sons, Tim (Casey) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jae (Mary), of Richmond, Virginia; and Dale (Stephanie), of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Julia Robinson, Andrew (Andy) Anderson, Victoria (Torie) Anderson, and Rael Anderson; and three great-grandchildren Theren, Atticus and Guinevere. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Jane.

Honoring Andy's wishes, there will be no public service. His family will be celebrating his life privately and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac, MI, where he will be interred alongside his wife, Jane.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Dowagiac Area History Museum. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clark Chapel-Starks Family Funeral Homes, Dowagiac, MI.
