Carol A. Braune (Bortle), 82, of Eau Claire, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at home with her daughter by her side, under the care of Interim Healthcare Hospice.
Carol was born in Eau Claire, WI on November 12, 1942, to Mabel (Ottum) and Bruce Bortle. She graduated from Memorial High School in 1960 and went on to earn her associate's degree in healthcare.
Carol was married to Rudolf "Rudy" Braune on September 30, 1977. She worked as a Nurses Aid, for the Eau Claire County Health Department and retired in 2002. She loved going on road trips with Rudy, especially in the fall. She had a passion for cooking, baking, painting and watching all the furry critters in her backyard. She loved to reminisce about the past and share stories of all the great times she had with family and friends.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Robyn (Cory) Thomas of Eau Claire; Her sister Janice Weichel of Edina, MN; And many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Robert Bortle, her sister Beryl "Mitzi" Heuer and her stepson Deitmar Braune.
The Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 4pm to 7pm at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Pkwy, Altoona, WI.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Eau Claire Community Humane Association (ECCHA) or Feed My People Food Bank of Eau Claire, in memory of Carol Braune.
Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.cremationsociety-wi.com
