Jeffrey A. Gorton, 73 of Eau Claire died on Wednesday, December 6 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire.
Jeff was born to Bob and Lila Gorton on August 5, 1950. Jeff graduated from Memorial High School in Eau Claire in 1968. Jeff was a Vietnam era Army Veteran. He attended CVTC and UW-Stout. Jeff worked for Goodloves Supermarket, Gorton Bros Masonry, Eau Claire County, 500 Line Railroad, and retired from Xcel Energy in 2009. On March 17, 2000, Jeff married Marie McMahon and from this union a blended family was formed of two cats, two dogs, and two horses.
Jeff tried to live his life by the following inspirations: live in harmony with nature and animals, live simply so others can simply live, the least important word is "I," do not look down on someone, unless you are helping them up, and laughter is the best medicine.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Marie; son, Joshua (Kristi); daughter, Emilee (Phil); stepdaughter, Missy (Mark); grandchildren, Brayden, Olivia, and Lucy; step-grandchildren, Damyon, and Dante; and siblings, Charley (Kim), Jim "Gym," Tom, Teresa (Tim), and Mary Ellen (Brian).
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, known people, and many animals.
A memorial service will be Tuesday, December 12 at 12 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Friends and family may leave online condolences at smithfuneralec.com.
