Margaret Wicklund, age 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Classic at Hillcrest Greens in Altoona.

Margaret was born on October 7, 1933 in Kaiserslautern, Germany. She grew up in Germany during World War II before later becoming a war bride and emigrating to the United States in 1954. There she built a life centered on family, raising four children and instilling in them the strength, resilience, and determination that defined her character.

In 1952, at the age of nineteen, she was crowned "Marga I," the first Fasching Carnival Princess of Kaiserslautern. Fasching, a traditional German festival celebrated from November through Ash Wednesday, brought communities together in celebration and local pride, and Margaret represented her city with grace during that festive season.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Wicklund, in 2017, and her son Steven Wicklund.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Sinnett (partner Harpo), Deborah Wicklund (also known as Astara Summers) and her husband Steven, and Maria Herbert and her husband Kyle.

She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Angela of California; Eoin (wife Meagan), who works in information technology with Amazon Web Services; Zak, a firefighter in Florida; Kurt, a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force; and Kody (wife Morgan), a software engineer working in the family business. She was very proud of her grandchildren.

Margaret is also survived by great-grandchildren Christina, Teague, Breya, and Rowan, with another great-grandchild expected this August, as well as nieces and nephews in both the United States and Germany.

Though gentle words did not always come easily to her, her love for family was evident in the sacrifices she made and the perseverance she modeled. Known for her strong opinions and feisty spirit, Margaret carried the determination that defined her life until the very end. Her legacy of strength, perseverance, and determination will live on through the family she loved and fought so hard for.

Private family services will be held. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire in August.
