Richard "Dick" R. Buck, age 93, of Eau Claire, died on Wednesday, May 1 at Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
Dick was born June 7, 1930 to the late Floyd R. and Cecil (Bartlett) Buck in Hibbing, Minnesota. He grew up in Clarissa, Minnesota one of four boys in a civic-minded family. He and his brothers were Eagle Scouts and all four brothers served in the Armed Forces. On June 12, 1954 he married the love of his life, Linda Nelson at Ezekiel Lutheran Church.
He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, School of Education and retired as Department Chair for Foundations and Library Science in 1997. Prior to his tenure at UWEC, he taught at other high schools and colleges. Teaching was his passion; he loved it.
Church life was very important to Dick. He enjoyed his church family and often talked of them with great fondness. He enjoyed working in the church library organizing and cataloging books.
Since 1964, Dick and Linda enjoyed traveling in their RV visiting National Parks across the county and doing volunteer work in many of them.
Dick is survived by his son, Randall of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Nancy Jo Rice and her husband, Lee, of Leicester, NC; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; daughter, Marjorie; brothers, Curtis, Royce, and Bob.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3 at Faith Lutheran Mission Church (1704 Hogeboom Ave, Eau Claire) with the Reverend Nick Henseler officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
