Dorothy Gallagher Obituary

Dorothy Jean Gallagher, 75, of Dayton, passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. She was born Oct. 26, 1935, in Kittanning, to Carl and Mable (Little) Rankin. Dorothy was a lifetime resident of the area and a devoted member of Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church. Her gardens were her pride and joy and she spent much time creating these beautiful landscapes. Dorothy was also known for the pickles and jelly she would make and sell each year, but will be best-remembered for having a servant's heart. Dorothy dedicated her life to caring for her sons and husband and nothing made her happier than spending time with her entire family. She is survived by her sons, Richard Gallagher, of Kittanning, Ron Gallagher, of Dayton, and Derek Gallagher and his wife, Brenda, of Gouverneur, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jennifer Wagner and her husband, Chad, Chris Gallagher, Andy Gallagher, Casey Gallagher, Brock Gallagher, Shannon Gallagher, Kylie Gallagher and Liam Gallagher; and sisters, Isabelle Orr and her husband, Raymond, of Jeanette, Thelma Daughtery, of Elwood City, and Helen Helle, of Charlotte, N.C. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband of 57 years, Walter P. Gallagher, who passed away Feb. 1, 2010. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the BAUER-BLY FUNERAL HOME, 125 E. Main St., Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church, 2540 Dayton Smicksburg Road, Dayton, with the Rev. Laurie Milligan officiating. Burial will be in Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Wayne Township, Armstrong County. Arrangements are being handled by BAUER-BLY FUNERAL HOME INC.
