Edward Reighert Obituary

Edward W. "Pontiac Kid" Reighert, 82, of New Castle, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at his residence. Born April 12, 1926, in Kittanning, he was a son of the late Jess and Hauda (Bowser) Reighert. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Sharon Steel Corp. He formerly was employed by Eldger Co. of Ford City and Kittanning Brickyard. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army's Private Special Training Unit, 338th Section. He was a member of Bethel United Brethren Church; Fraternal Order of the Eagles; Loyal Order of the Moose; CG's; Country and Western Music Club; EyeCare House; and AMVETS. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Akins) Reighert, whom he married Oct. 27, 1956; two daughters, Shirley (Robert) Snow and Caroline (George) Lawton, both of New Castle; four sons, Edward Reighert Jr., Bob (Maggie) Reighert and Walter Reighert and his companion, Tom, all of New Castle, and Milton Reighert, of Pittsburgh; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Annabelle Reighert; two daughters, Annabelle Reighert and Hauda Reighert; a son, Jessie Reighert; three brothers, Walter Jordan, Bert Jordan and George Reighert; and nine sisters, Dessie Bogelstock, Thelma Toy, Grace Fusie, Mary Artman, Jessie Artman, Nora Korn, Virginia Korn, Marie Hegley and Louise Reighert. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the ED & DON DeCARBO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 941 S. Mill St., New Castle. Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday in Grace Brethren Church, 215 Arthur St., Kittanning, with Pastor Mark Cornwell officiating. Burial will be in Kittanning Cemetery.
