He was born May 12, 1918 at Kelly Station (Bethel Township) to Mike and Ella (Mason) Gamble.
Mr. Gamble was a coal miner for Penn-Allegheny Coal Co., Tarentum for 20 years before retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Homewood Baptist Church, Logansport, Bethel Township.
His other memberships included United Mine Workers of America, Tarentum.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and meeting his friends each day at the Central Restaurant in Apollo.
He lived in Apollo for the past two years and prior to that he lived in the Kelly Station area of Bethel Township.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty Jean (Moore) Gamble; four sons, Thomas M. Gamble of Bethel Township, Arthur Eugene Gamble of Oklahoma Borough, Larry Gamble of Saxonburg and Jesse D. Gamble of Vandergrift; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Bonnie) Mikita of Rural Valley and Mrs. Clyde (Betty) Stripling of Apollo; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Gamble of Greenwood, La., John Gamble of Yatesboro and Merle Gamble of Tarentum; and two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Lardin of Shelocta and Violet Coyle of Kittanning.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard and Harold Gamble; four brothers, Frank, William, Robert and George Gamble; one grandson, Richard Gamble Jr.; and one granddaughter, Melissa Gamble.
GAMBLE - Friends of Jesse H. Gamble, 83, of North Second Street, Apollo, who died Oct. 20, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Clawsons, Second at Main, Leechburg. Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Homewood Baptist Church, Logansport with the Rev. R. Dean McKee officiating.
