Filbert Gehle Obituary
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Peter Kolb officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Fayette County Health Department Hospice. Online condolences may be shared at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Mr. Gehle was born on Oct. 1, 1921, in St. Paul, the son of Martin and Clara Holman Gehle. He married Hilda Rebbe on Dec. 28, 1941; she passed away on Jan. 31, 1993. He married Linda Braasch on Feb. 19, 1994.
He was a farmer, and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Fayette County Farm Bureau. He served on the Lutheran Care Center board and the Fayette County Farm Service Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife; sons, David Gehle and his wife Nancy of Haslett, Mich., and Larry Gehle and his wife Ann of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother, Norman Gehle of St. Peter; grandchildren, Kristi and her husband Richard Stoddard of Watson, Jessica Gehle of Olympia, Wash., Sean Gehle and his wife Dawn of Lansing, Mich., and Jarred Gehle and his wife Kimberly of Chanhassan, Minn.; and great-grandchildren, Reagan, Makayla, Vincent, Sydney, Matthew, Brayden, Camden and Ashlyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a brother and a sister.

Dad you will be greatly missed. I'm sure you will try to till the soil in Heaven if Jesus has any to till. I can still remember when you visited us in Colorado when we lived there. You wasn't impressed with the beautiful mountains because it was too hilly and you couldn't farm it.

Dear Dave, Larry and family.
So sorry to hear of "Uncle Fils" passing.
My illness prevents Dorthy and I from attending the service, but our hearts will be with you.
Uncle Fil will always be with us in our memories of a life, well lived.

Dear Linda, Dave, Larry and families,
Marie and I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing Fil since his marriage to Linda. What a joy it was to talk farming, family and Vandalia area history with him! Our trip together to Branson, MO a few years ago was lots of fun and a relaxing time together. We are sorry that we can't make the trip for the funeral but Marie's health at present makes that impossible. It is our prayer that the faith that Fil held in our Savior Jesus will now give you comfort, peace and yes - joy in knowing that he now rests in the arms of Jesus and you can look forward to a blessed reunion in heaven some day. We wonder if there are any horses outside of the heavenly mansions. If there are, we are confident Fil would be volunteering to help take care of them.
