TERRANCE BRUNGARDT

TERRANCE BRUNGARDT 10/07/1939 - 11/10/2025 Terrance M. "Terry" Brungardt, educator and proud third generation Volga Deutsch American, died November 10, 2025, in Roeland Park, Kan. He was born on October 7, 1939, near Victoria, Kan., to Sylvester and Beata "Betty" (Karlin) Brungardt. He graduated from Fort Hays State College in 1961 and taught English in British North Borneo with the Peace Corps. He earned a master's and PhD in Sociology from University of Kansas and taught Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology, retiring in 2006 from University of Saint Mary. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen Baker; children Patrick Brungardt (LeAnne Foust), Jessica Oertel (Brian Oertel), Nate Baker (Randi Davis), and Ben Brungardt (Cynthia Rahija); grandchildren Conor, Ally, Ava, Hudson, and Sylvester; and many siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at McGilley and Hoge Funeral Chapel, Overland Park, Kan. Memorials may be made to his endowed scholarship at USM or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
