Hiawassee, GA- Alma Sue White Thaxton, 77, passed away Jan. 20, 2015 at Brasstown Manor in Hiawassee, GA, following a period of declining health.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 24, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA, with Reverend David Howle officiating. A private interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Sue was born March 13, 1937 to the late Howard Jennings White, Sr., and Alma Lane White. She was a native of Columbus, GA, graduated from Columbus High School in 1955, and was retired from the Columbus Medical Center. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus and the King's Daughters Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband Travis Raymond Thaxton and daughter Penny Renee Veal.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Todd Turner, Hiawassee, GA; son and daughter-in law, Joe and Donna Veal, Rainbow City, AL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lane Turner and Joseph B. Veal, Jr.; sister, Jane White, Dallas, GA; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jennings and Jackie White, Newnan, GA; and Otis and Jo White, Decatur, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joey and Vicki, I am so sorry about your Mom. I have thought about all of you over the many years that have past. The last time I saw her, she stopped by the house to show me a photo she had blown up of Penny. You and your family will be in my prayers. Sue and I had 10 special years together after we both retired. We bought houses across the street from each other in Columbus. I treasure those years. We traveled and had so much fun together. I will sorely miss her but she is busy now in her new Heavenly home with Travis, Penney and Mom and Dad! She was a wonderful sister! Our loss is Heaven's gain!

Sue was a very special person. I loved sitting and talking with her while here in Primrose Walk. I feel really blessed to have known her. My prayers go out to her family. Sue can now rest in peace with our Lord and Savior.

Ms Sue took me under her wing when I started at Columbus Regional in 1995. She became my other mom and I truly loved her very much. We laughed everyday and she was a joy to be around. Will keep you Vicki & Joey with my prayers for Heaven gained a loving angel!
