Columbus, GA- Mr. Bert T. Grimes, Jr. of Columbus passed away Sunday at St. Francis Hospital. He was 63 years of age and resided at 4721 Hiddenwoods Drive.
The son of Mrs. Lillie Thomas Grimes of Columbus and the late Bert T. Grimes, Sr., Bert was a Columbus native, and a 1969 graduate of the William H. Spencer High School. He attended Columbus College (CSU). He was a retired insurance agent with American General Life Insurance Company and a mortgage broker. He was a member of St. Mary's Road United Methodist Church where he served as an Usher, and was the sole servant of the Transportation Ministry, as well as, numerous other capacities at the church. He was known as the "fill in man". He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran.
Survivors, other than his mother, include: his loving wife, Stephanie Askew Grimes; five sons, Malcolm Grimes, Marco Grimes (Shameka), Yderian "Dale" Grimes (Ashley), Frank "Spike" Horton (Katrina) and Corey Lyles; two daughters, Kierra Valentin (Michael) and Jada Thomas (Tyrie); five grandchildren, Nehemiah, Lily, Ayanna, Jaxon, Anaya; one sister, Jennifer Grimes Turner (Michael);three brothers, Willie Frank "Will" Grimes (Della), Robert Grimes and Randolph "Randy" Grimes (Quise);a uncle, Henry Thomas, Jr. (Pauline); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Grimes will be Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Progressive Chapel with interment in Green Acres Cemetery. Rev. Dr. L.K. Pendleton, officiating. Bishop Henry Moore, Eulogist. Visitation is Friday, 2 til 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 2:30 the day of the service. Stephanie, Marco and the Grimes family, what seemed like a sudden transition has left many of us still trying to come to grips with the fact that Bert has left us. As the ole souls reminded us that "By and By" we'll understand it better "By and By" family be mindful that we're praying with you and although you're in tears now God will wipe your tears away. Until then family look towards the hill from whence cometh our Help! All of our Help comes from the Lord.
