Beverly Mobley Obituary

Beverly Ann Wright Mobley
February 17, 1934 - March 3, 2022
Columbus, Georgia - Our beautiful mother, Beverly Ann Wright Mobley, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the age of 88.
A service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory chapel with Dr. Jimmy Elder from First Baptist Church and Rev. Matt Stephens from Mt. Zion "The Fort" officiating. A private family interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. A visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA. 31907.
Ann was born on February 17, 1934, at her home in Phenix City, Alabama to Walter Gordon Wright and Bernice Appleby. After her father passed, she was raised by her mother and devoted stepfather, William W. Ensminger. She attended Double Churches Elementary but moved to Mobile, Alabama during World War II. After the War, she returned to Columbus to complete elementary school. Ann graduated from Baker High school in 1950 at the age of 16. In school, she was an avid reader and a beautiful majorette. After high school, she attended Georgia Southwestern in Americus for two years and while there served as the Student Body President. She transferred to Auburn University in 1952 and married her High School sweetheart, Raymond E. Mobley, on March 1, 1953, eloping on a Sunday afternoon. She graduated from Auburn with a degree in elementary education and taught the 4th grade at Gentian from 1955-1957 and then at Double Churches from 1963-1968. Ann eventually became a substitute teacher, and she used any other spare time to serve her community.
She was a member of the Azalea Garden Club and the Green Island Garden Club. She served as President of the Azalea Garden Club twice, District Director of the Magnolia District, and as a member of the State Board. She was a member of the Springer Guild, the Brookstone School Board, and a charter member of the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home Auxiliary. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and accepted Christ at the age of 13. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Girls Auxiliary leader, and a lifelong member of the Joy-Sunshine Sunday school Class. Our mother loved people. She had so many friends from every walk of life. She loved her Double Churches friends, her suitemates in college, her garden club ladies, and all her Sunday school friends. She loved and was so loved in return. To say she loved her family would be an understatement. She cared for, nurtured, and loved her family until the day she died. Ann and Raymond were married for 67 years before he passed in April of 2020.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Frieda Ensminger Moye; her brother, Walter Wright; and two beautiful grandchildren. She is survived by her children Ray Mobley, Jr. (Leesa) of Columbus, GA, David Mobley (Christy) of Jacksonville, FL, Kathy Mobley Young (Billy) of Columbus, GA, and Carol Mobley Kirven (Hal) of Columbus, GA; grandchildren Wes Mobley ( Mary Allen) of Columbus, GA, Lane Bethay ( Jack) of Mountain Brook, AL, David Mobley (Whitney) of Jackson, TN, Aaron Mobley (Jamie) of Jacksonville, FL, Katy Wildes (Paul) of Columbus, GA, Taylor Colwell (Joseph) of Columbus, GA, and Maggie Clark of Columbus, GA; 14 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jack Mobley (Donna) of South Carolina, and sister-in-law, Kat Mobley of Pine Mt., GA.; wonderful nieces and nephews; and other beloved friends. A special hug for her nephew, Jeremy Moye.
We would love to thank our wonderful caregivers, Brenda, Shirlene, Mattie, Nora, and Linda; our Columbus Hospice caregivers, especially Sarah, Linda and Kristen; mom's Joy-Sunshine class; and her faithful friends and family who delivered meals, cards, flowers, or just stopped by for a visit. We love you and we have been blessed by you.
Flowers will be accepted, but those so desiring may make contributions to the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home 751 Double Churches Road Columbus, GA. 31904, Columbus Hospice 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909 or your favorite charity.

I was a student in Mrs. Mobley´s fourth grade class at Gentian Elementary School 1955-56 school year. It was the first year Gentian opened. I loved being in her class, and I have been fortunate to know her as an adult, as well! We had several get-togethers of former Gentian students, and she joined us for those wonderful, fun times! She will always hold a special place in my heart, and I extend my sincere sympathy to her family.

Ann was a lovely person that was a true example of a southern lady. She always remembered birthdays and showed caring to all. She loved her family or the Mob Squad as she called them and I know that "Grand" will be missed by all. The values that she taught by example are reflected in her family. Sandy and Earl Brooks
