Carlos Collazo July 24, 1925 - December 7, 2003PHENIX CITY, AL - Carlos Collazo, 78, of Phenix City, died Sunday, Dec. 7, at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City, Ala. Agraveside servicewill be held 1 p.m. EST Wednesday at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with full military honors, according to Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City. A Rosary will be held 6 p.m. EST this evening at the funeral home. The family will receive friends after the Rosary until 8 p.m. EST. Mr. Collazo was born July 24, 1925 in Puerto Rico, son of the late Fernado Collazo and Assuncion Ortiz. He was retired from the United States Army with 30 years of service, serving during the Korean conflict. Mr. Collazo was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbus and the VFW 5228. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Igdahlia Collazo and a sister, Rosa Collazo. Survivors include his wife, Brigitte Benke Collazo of Phenix City; six sons, Carlos W. Collazo of Phenix City, Fernando Collazo of New Jersey, Richard Collazo of Phenix City, Aladino Collazo of Puerto Rico, Carlos Collazo and William Collazo, both of New York; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a sister, Panchita Collazo of Puerto Rico; and two brothers, Tito Collazo and Jose Collazo, both of Puerto Rico.
