Columbus, GA - Mrs. Cecilia "Ci Ci" Webb Hooten, a resident of Spring Harbor Retirement Community, died peacefully on the 25th of November 2014 following a courageous battle against cancer, surrounded by her adoring family. She was 88 years of age.
Cecilia was born on March 8, 1926 in Ft Gaines, GA to Cecil P. and Mary Lou Foote Webb.
As a child, Cecilia lived in and attended school at Edison High School in Edison, GA.
She attended Georgia State Women's College at Valdosta, GA and studied home economics. She later transferred to Georgia State Women's College in Milledgeville where she continued her studies.
In Athens, Cecilia was an avid gardener, an extraordinary cook, and a prominent and active member of the Athens Garden Club. She was also involved in local politics. She had a true passion of sewing and stitch work and was a member of the Embroiderers Guild of America. Cecilia was also a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Athens.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Hooten, Jr who passed away June 1, 2000.
Cecilia and Joseph Rolfe Hooten, Jr., were married on December 5, 1948 at the Edison Baptist Church in Edison, GA. During their marriage they resided in Gaston, AL, Columbus, GA, Tallahassee, FL and eventually settled in Athens, GA.
Cecilia is survived by her two sons, Joseph Rolfe Hooten, III, his wife Laura Anne Dixon Hooten of Greensboro, NC and David Edward Hooten and his wife Ginger Bullock Hooten of Columbus, GA. Her grandchildren include Joseph Rolfe Hooten, IV and his wife Julia Sullivan Hooten, Thomas Dixon Hooten, Jacob Kent Hooten his wife Lindsay Ann Hooten and Jessica Kate Hooten. Cecilia had seven great-grandchildren; Raegan Maris Hooten, Avery Page Hooten, Daley Sullivan Hooten, Joseph Rolfe Hooten V, LeeAnn Maxine Hooten, Jackson David Hooten and Taylor Ann Hooten.
Cecilia had two living siblings Byrdie "Butch" Webb Deaton of Columbus, GA and Mary Ann Bradshaw of San Antonio, TX. Her brother, Edward Allen Webb, preceded her in death.
Cecilia, an incredibly loving soul, was known for her beautiful smile, warm personality, quick wit and unending love and devotion to her family and friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her and experienced her charm.
A visitation for friends and family will be held Sunday, Dec 7th at Spring Harbor at 3pm. Graveside service will be held on December 1st, 2014 at 1pm at the Oconee Hills Cemetery in Athens, GA. According to Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus.
