Summerfield, NC- Charles Edward Shirah, 66, of Hudson James Road, died Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2011, at Liberty Wesleyan Church, Summerfield, NC, with Reverend Danny Janes officiating. Interment will follow in church cemetery.
Mr. Shirah was born January 2, 1945, in Muscogee County, GA, to the late Homer Edward and Carolyn Grahan Shirah. He served as a member of the Army Reserves, was a sales representative manager with Blue Cross Blue Shield and an active member of Liberty Wesleyan Church. Charles was also an avid golfer, a founding member of BHB's and a strong Auburn football fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dwayne Shirah.
Survivors include his wife, Ann James Shirah, of the home; son, Chuck Shirah, of Atlanta, GA; step-sons, Dennis Darnell and wife, Debbie, and Ricky Darnell; step-daughter, Cindy Purcell; brother, Reverend Hugh Shirah and wife, Beverly, of Phenix City, AL; granddaughter, Delaney Shirah; step-grandchildren, Allyson Wilson and husband, Chris, and Dusty Darnell and wife, Cristina, and step-great-grandchild, Syler Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Beacon Place, 2502 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27403 or Liberty Wesleyan Church, 15303 US Highway 158, East, Summerfield, NC 27358.
Colonial Funeral Home in Madison, NC, is serving the family.

Charles and I went to work for BCBSGa a few months apart and were friends for all those years. He was fun-loving and always a true Southern gentleman. Our hearts amd prayers go out to you. May God bless you and comfort you during this most difficult time.
