Clayton Gregory Obituary

Clayton Everett Gregory (TSgt, USAF Ret) January 24, 1931- November 23, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA— Clayton Everett Gregory (TSgt, USAF Ret), 76, of Columbus, Georgia, died Friday, November 23 at home with his family. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2007 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Gregory was born in Chesnee, South Carolina, on January 24, 1931, son of the late Loyd Everett Gregory and Mattie Watkins Gregory. After having served in Vietnam, he retired from the Air Force and lived in Orlando, Florida where he worked at the Orlando Sentinel Star.  He has lived in Columbus since 1996 and was non-denominational.  Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldon and William Gregory, and one sister, Allowee Horn. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Gregory is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Gregory of Columbus, GA; his two sons, Carl Gregory and his wife Leila of Smiths, AL and James Gregory of New York, NY; a daughter Brigitta Riale and her husband Jim of Smiths, AL; a sister, Louise Hughey of Gastonia, NC, and a brother Jack Gregory of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Jason Gregory, Josh Gregory, Christie Gregory, Kurtis Riale, Clayton Riale and Kathryn Riale; and two great grandchildren, Austin Hopper and Justin Hopper. Mr. Gregory traveled widely and while at home enjoyed gardening and reading. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the John B. Amos Cancer Center in Columbus and the Muscogee County Humane Society. Please visit www.mem.com to sign the online guest registry.
