David Carson Obituary

David Brice Carson

July 12, 1961 - June 7, 2025

Columbus, Georgia - David Brice Carson, age 63, passed away peacefully at his home in Columbus, GA on June 7, 2025 after a courageous war with leukemia. Raised by his parents Robert Brice Carson and Betty Patterson Carson, David grew up in Columbus, where First Presbyterian Church provided a strong spiritual foundation.

David graduated from Hardaway High School in 1979 and then attended the University of Alabama, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Capstone College of Nursing. David spent his early career as a nurse working with patients facing mental health challenges and substance use, specializing in working with adolescents and young adults. While in Birmingham, he worked at Hillcrest Hospital, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the Bradford Center, where he played a role in developing a ropes course and other outdoor programming. In 1992, David returned to Columbus with his family, where he worked at the Columbus Regional Medical Center.

David and his wife, Vickie, became well-known in the Columbus community for publishing Playgrounds Magazine, which promoted local art, music, and theater for 20 years (1994-2014). David also owned and managed SoHo Bar and Grill for 23 years (2002-2024), with nearly 20 years of supporting live music as a venue for local, regional, and international acts. He was a friend to his customers and a mentor to employees. Many will remember him for his guidance and encouragement to do better for themselves.

In his younger days, David enjoyed music festivals, camping, and canoeing. Throughout his lifetime, he was enthusiastic about Alabama football and spending time outside. David also enjoyed food - especially casseroles, dips, and the Columbus classic, the scramble dog.

David is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vickie Carson, his son Dylan Nabors, his daughter Elizabeth Carson, and his brother Jim Carson.

In honor of David, please make donations to MercyMed or Columbus Hospice. Additionally, there will be a celebration of David to support these causes. Further details will be announced by SoHo Bar and Grill.

He will truly be missed by so many people and made major impacts on people's lives. He was one of my favorite bosses and always gave the best advice. Lord knows the chaos I brought around in my 20's, always a safe place to go, and would tell me hard truths, whether I wanted to hear them or not. Learned so much from you. My prayers and condolences go to Vicki, Elizabeth, and Dylan.
