Donald Grant "Don" Castleberry March 23, 1929- September 2, 2007 RICHLAND, GA— Donald Grant "Don" Castleberry, 78, died Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the Medical Center in Columbus, GA. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Harmony Cemetery in Richland with Rev. Robert Orr and Rev. Joey Cannon officiating. Pallbearers will be Will Taylor, Jason Snipes, Clark Snipes, Bob Snipes, Keith Dacus and Coy Green. Mr. Castleberry was born March 23, 1929 in Richland, GA to James Homer and Alberta Wood Castleberry. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Alphia M. Whidby. He lived all his life in Stewart and Webster Counties and was an active member of Richland United Methodist Church, having served in all capacities. He served as a State Representative in the Georgia House from 1972 to 1982 and later served as Doorkeeper for the House and Messenger for the House. He owned and operated Castleberry's clothing store from 1966 to 1981 and also ran Castleberry's insurance agency in Richland. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 50 years. In 1982 he began working for the Department of Natural Resources and later the Department of Corrections, retiring from the State in 1999. He was a Mason and was one of the longest paying members in the local American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maryneil Stephens Castleberry; sons Eddie S. Castleberry of Atlanta, GA and J. Clint Castleberry of Richland; grandchildren Charles S. Castleberry of Atlanta, Chris Castleberry (Melanie) of Americus, GA and Nick Castleberry (Laurie) of Temple, TX; great-grandchildren Emma Castleberry, Brian N. Castleberry II, and twins Dakota and Mackenzie Castleberry; aunt Sue Stephens of Plains, GA; nephews and nieces Richard Whidby, Roulf and Susan Stephens, and their children Caleb and Colt, Kimberly and Evans Kelley, and their children Charles, Kendall and Andrew; and cousin Robert Carter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Richland United Methodist Church Trustee Building Fund, 607 Hamilton St., Richland, GA 31825, or to any charity of your choice. Smith Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
