Dorothy C. Lagen August 3, 1912 - March 13, 2009 TALLADEGA, AL— Dorothy C. ÒGGÓ Lagen, age 96, resident of Logan Martin Lake, Talladega, AL. for her final years and former resident of Columbus, went to be with the Lord on March 13, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne Catholic Church on Monday, March 16, 2009, 11 a.m. Celebrant of the Mass will be Father Gerard Schreck and Co-Celebrant will be Father Mike Cerone, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rosary will be said at the funeral home on Sunday, March 15, 2009, 6 p.m. The family will receive friends after Rosary until 8 p.m. Mrs. Lagen , loving daughter of the late Paul and Regina Nicks, was born August 3, 1912, in Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa in June 1934 with a B.A. degree in Education. Her 44 years of teaching included 25 years as the English and Latin teacher at Pacelli High School in Columbus. She was also honored at age 84 at St. Francis Hospital for her 21 years as a Candy Striper delivering magazines and books to patients. One of her classmates wrote a note to her in their Clarkes College Annual that highlights Dorothy's life. She wrote, ÒFriends may be many, friends may be few, but I'll never forget the friend I have in you.Ó Mrs. Lagen was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband of 32 years, Major (Ret) Robert Cole Lagen and two brothers, Paul Nicks and Charles Nicks. She is survived by one daughter, Patty Winch and her husband, Jack; one son, Bob Lagen, Jr. and his wife, Patsy; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Anne Pacelli Catholic High School, 2020 Trinity Drive, Columbus, GA. 31907. ÒWe love you GG.Ó
