Eugene Demonet Obituary

Eugene Demonet III

February 5, 1938 - September 14, 2024

Suwanee, Georgia - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugene Albert Demonet III, a beloved father, husband, son, and friend. Eugene was born in New Jersey and raised in the Short Hills area. On September 14, 2024, he peacefully departed from this world surrounded by his loved ones.

Gene was a man of many talents and pursuits. Throughout his life, he continued to enjoy his childhood interests of sailing, hiking, and the outdoors. His love for reading, particularly of historical literature, was evident to all who knew him. He was a proud alumnus of Union College in New York, where he completed undergraduate degrees in both Civil Engineering and History. Eugene furthered his education by obtaining an MBA in Business from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio.

He had an extensive career beginning with his beloved early years as a Naval Officer serving as a Navigator, Engineer Officer, and First Lieutenant Deck Officer. After leaving the navy, he pursued his career as an engineer starting at General Motors, serving in managerial positions for The Austin Company, Etched Metal Company, Midland -Ross Corporation and as the Plant Manager for both Otis Elevator and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. In his final career years, Gene served as President of Columbus Technical Institute.

Throughout his life, Gene continually contributed to his community. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce in both Bloomington, Indiana and Columbus, Georgia. Additionally, he served on multiple boards including: Mercer University Engineering School, Columbus Technical Institute, Columbus Regional Hospital and Medical Center, the Ronald McDonald House, and the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame.

During his 65 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Boyes Demonet, Eugene shared a profound bond filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Their union brought forth 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

He leaves behind his devoted spouse, Patricia Demonet, (who we sadly lost on October 3rd, 2024), children Donna York (Jim), Cathy Demonet, Julia Demonet, Greg Demonet (Paula), Mindy Lehman (Mark), grandchildren Brittany Carter (Lathe), Katie Sisk (Cole), Michael York, Nicole, Brenton and Maya Novit, Robin Klitzke, Autumn, Eliana, Emma, Joseph Demonet, Demi Lehman, great grandchildren Wyatt and Westyn Carter, Cooper and Jackson Sisk, his brother Larry Demonet, cousins John Pfaltz (Margaret), Marilynn Pfaltz as well as his extended family and friends. We take peace in knowing he has joined his brother David Demonet, cousin Hugo (Tug) Pfaltz and his parents and other family members.

A memorial service for him, and his beloved Patricia will be held to celebrate their memory on October 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Nicholas Episcopal Church in Hamilton, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Western NC relief effort in the mountains that he loved, the Alzheimer's Association (https://act.alz.org), or Saint Nicholas Episcopal Church (https://www.stnicholashamilton.org).
