Helen Clayton Obituary

Helen L. Clayton August 30, 1936 - July 3, 2009 COLUMBUS, GA — Mrs. Helen L. Clayton of Columbus passed Friday at her home. She was 72 years old and resided at 3516 Stratford Drive. Born in Laurel, MS on August 30, 1936, Mrs. Clayton was the daughter of the late Lorenzo, Sr. and Irene Moody Vaughn. She received her primary and secondary education in Jones County, and attended Jackson State College where she studied English and Early Childhood Education. She was a homemaker who had resided in Columbus for over 39 years and was a member of the Cusseta Road Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, CSM (Ret) Eddie L. Clayton, four brothers, Lorenzo, Jr, Luther, Early and Lee Vaughn, and sister, Jessie Cotton. Surviving her departure with cherished memories, are: her children, Dr. Wendy P. Clayton-Beans (Col. (Ret) Michael) of Germany, Eric V. Clayton of Freemont, CA and Dr. Kimberly L. Clayton of New Smyrna Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Beans and Michael E. Beans of Germany; one brother, Eddie Vaughn (Beatrice) of New York; two sisters, Bernice Clayton of Springfield, IL and Marie Durr of Laurel; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Clayton (Sherry) of Chicago, IL and Winston Clayton (Marita) of Fayetteville, NC; a sister-in-law, Clarice Johnson (Ray) of Los Angeles; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving neighbors, church family and friends. A Celebration of Love and Thanksgiving for Mrs. Helen Clayton will be Friday, 11:00 AM at the Cusseta Road Church of Christ with Brother Elliott Glasgow officiating. The Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA. The visitation is TODAY, 2 til 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 10:30 AM the day of the service. Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.
