Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Jason Alan Benford US Army Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

To the entire Benford family:

I'm sorry for this delayed signing in your family's Guestbook; I just learned today of Jason's passing and felt compelled to write a few words.

Linda & John, as you know, growing up I lived around the corner on Harvard in Toledo and used to watch/hang out with Jason & John for several years. I was saddened, yet deeply moved, after reading Jason's exemplary service record along with his outstanding achievements. Kim, I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you or your family but, I hope you're finding comfort in the pride you must feel for Jason.

Good luck and God speed to all of you!

Kind regards,

Kristal L. Rosebrook

I'm Andre a senior at Sumner High school in Washington. I'm deeply sorry for the loss of your son. But you should be very proud of him, which I am sure you are. Because he died to give us freedoms that we may not of had. Thank you for your families sacrifice.

TO THE FAMILY OF JASON BENFORD:

THE "RUN FOR THE FALLEN" TEAM CAME THROUGH OUR SMALL CITY OF WAYNOKA, OKLAHOMA THIS WEEK AND JASON'S FLAG WAS PLACED JUST OUTSIDE OF TOWN. IF YOU LOOK ON A MAP, WE'RE IN N.W. OKLAHOMA.

AS A MOTHER OF A RETURNING SOLDIER FROM BAGDAD, I WANT TO EXPRESS MY HEARTFELT THANKS TO JASON FOR HIS SACRIFICE AND SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY.

NO FAMILY SHOULD HAVE TO ENDURE THIS AND I HAVE NO IDEA OF THE PAIN YOU ALL MUST BE FEELING, BUT AFTER READING ABOUT JASON, I TOO FEEL SUCH A SENSE OF LOSS. MY HEART ABSOLUTELY BREAKS FOR HIS FAMILY.

HOLD TIGHT TO THE GOOD MEMORIES OF HIM AND THE INCREDIBLE SACRIFICE HE MADE TO KEEP US ALL SAFE AND KNOW THERE IS A MOM IN OKLAHOMA WHO IS HONORED TO HAVE HIS FLAG FLYING OUTSIDE OF TOWN.

WITH LOVE AND PRAYERS. GOD BLESS YOU.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Staff Sergeant Benford. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

August 15, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I miss my Uncle Jay everyday and wish I could have spent more time with him. He was a terrific person and will never be forgotten.
My thoughts are with you Kim & family.

October 22, 2006

To the Family of Staff Sgt. Jason A. Benford:
Your son's name, along with our sons, is forever together on a Memorial standing at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA. Their dogtags hang together forever moving with the wind creating a subtle sound, like the quiet whispers of the Fallen as they continue to speak to us. Attending this Memorial Dedication and hearing your child's name being read along with ours, has prompted me to sign this soldier's guestbook.
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Please know that I am deeply sorry for the loss of Staff Sgt. Jason A. Benford, one year ago today.
As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,
and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that a loss such as this brings. The overwhelming heartache seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.

May Jason, Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God and know that he WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
I pray that God's Loving Comfort and Grace will continue to be with the Beneford family.
I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

Surely He hath borne our grief, and carried our sorrow.
Isaiah 53:4

With each new day, may the Lord restore your soul and, through His love, give you the strength to go on.
You are in my prayers.

As we all hear news from Iraq, it takes on a special and very personal significance when it hits so close to home.We are saddened to hear of the loss of Lori's brother, Jason, while serving in Iraq. Lori is a co-worker of my sister, Judy Hunter.

Jason's sacrifice, though difficult for all to accept, is not in vain. He paid the ultimate price as a true volunteer hero. His service to our country deserves special honor. We know that your family is extremely proud of Jason's dedication to his calling.

It remains our prayer that the peace and comfort of Jesus Christ will be present for you all as you pass through this difficult time.

May you reflect upon those many loving memories. Cherish them and above all, know that he is missed but always be remembered.

I wish I were there to give Lori and Kim and the whole family a warm smile and gentle hug, and remind you that despite the tragedy that has come into your lives, there is a God who is still in control that cares deeply and loves you very much, and will continue to love Kimberly, Lane and Jacob as His own. Even though they are without an earthly father now, they still have a heavenly father that will provide for all their needs. Jason will be missed. He was quite a man. Jason Benford was a very close friend of mine. We were stationed together in Ft. Benning from 2001-2002. We often ate breakfast together before the duty day began and got to know each other very well and built a close freindship over a short amount of time. It was a blessing to share time with him and his family. Our prayers go out to Kim, Lane and Jacob. He is very much missed.

Jason was a very close friend of mine for most of my childhood. I have so many great memories of him and the time I spent with his family. He was always very loyal and true; I am proud to have known him and regret losing touch over the last 10 years. My deepest sympathies to his children, Kimberly, John, Linda and George for their tragic loss.

My son Jonathan has been serving in Iraq with Jason. I received an email from my son last week about Jason, part of which is quoted below. I wanted to share Jonathan's thoughts of Jason with you.

"He was a really great guy. One of the few NCOs that I new that you could come to him about anything."

Our family's thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Benford Family,

I was told of your loss by my sister in Orlando, Fl., Judy Hunter who works with Lori at RA Rogers. I want you to know I have all of you in my prayers and thoughts. I did't know Jason but I respect and admire his courage and bravery. All of us back home here in the USA like our freedoms and ability to go where we please without fear. If it wasn't for men like Jason Alan Benford these freedoms we have now just might not be. I stand up and salute your Jason Alan Benford, job well done, may you rest in peace.

Dear Linda and John,

Words cannot even begin to express the pain that is felt when you lose such a wonderful person like Jason. As you both know, Jason and I were best friends way back when...and it seems like only yesterday that I last saw or spoke to him. I am so proud and honored to have had him be a part of my life. Please know that my entire heart goes out to both of you, as well as the rest of the family. May God bless his beautiful, loving and heroic soul.
