Jerome Parker July 5, 1954 - July 6, 2009 PHENIX CITY, AL — Funeral services will be held for Gunnery Sergeant Jerome Parker, USMC, Retired, on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL, with the Reverend Lamar Hood officiating. Following the eulogy, Parker will be interred with full military honors at Fort Benning Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA, and a memorial service will be held, in his honor, on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, 10:00 AM at Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Base Chapel, according to Taylor Funeral Home, 1514 5th Avenue, Phenix City, AL is in charge of arrangements. Jerome Parker was one of 13 children born to the late James W. Parker, Jr. and Mrs. Annie Lee (Davis) Parker on July 5, 1954 in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. Parker grew up in Phenix City, Alabama, and was educated in the Russell County School System, graduating from Central High School in 1972. After graduation, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army and remained on active duty until 1975. Parker, then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, in 1976, actively serving his country until his retirement in August of 1993. During his military career, he received numerous service decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbon awards. Parker leaves to mourn his passing, a loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Verda Parker; one son, Joel B. Wright, Oceanside, CA; one daughter, Kim M. Wright, Escondido, CA; three grandchildren, Alexua N. Wright, Fayetteville, NC, Shyheim R. Wilkins, Lawnside, NJ, and Maliyah R. Wright, Oceanside, CA; five sisters, Dorothy (Amos) Herren, Columbus, GA, Irene Parker and Patricia Stroud, Phenix City, AL, Gloria (Willie) Williams, Smiths, AL and Beverly Palmer, Huntsville, AL; six brothers, Willie (Janette) Parker, Andrew Parker and Jeffery Parker, all of Phenix City, AL, Johnny (Delois) Parker, Huntsville, AL, Terry Parker, Coronado, CA and Horace Parker, Shawnee, KS; one brother, Kenneth Parker, preceded him in death; a loving sister-in-law, Ruby (Charlie) McFatten, Miami, FL; and brothers-in-law, Earnest Duffie, Fitzgerald, GA and Alton (Faye) Jones, Bronx, NY; 12 nieces, 13 nephews; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, great aunts, great uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
